MODERN MOUNTAIN HOME

Built on a tight budget, the Curton Residence is nestled in a valley behind a suburban development in Lyons, Colorado. Constructed of sandstone from an old quarry on the site, this house is designed to fit into the natural landscape.  To minimize cost, this home is a simple rectangular box with a single sloped roof that follows the slope of the landscape. Perched on leaning columns, inspired by aspen trees, an all-glass yoga studio provides visual contrast to the heavy stone-walls and visual relief from the stark elevation.
